Building a Water Xylophone
For this week’s challenge, we’re going to learn how to make a water xylophone out of things that you have in your house. Before you get started, please make sure that you have an adult helping you out with this one. We’ll be working with fragile things, and they will be able to help prevent any accidents from happening.
Water xylophones have been a huge trend online recently and I’m going to show you some simple steps to make your own. Check out the video at the bottom of this page for a step-by-step walkthrough of the project.
Materials:
Steps:
1. Have your family help you pick out a few different water glasses or bottle and set them out on a towel.
2. Gently tap each one with a pencil to hear it’s pitch.
3. Fill each glass with water until it makes a sound that you like.
4. Sort them from high to low. I like to have the lowest ones on the left, just like a wooden xylophone.
5. Record yourself while you improvise a melody!
6. Send your video to your teacher.
